Assume an 80-acre tract, a one-half mineral interest, a 640-acre unit, and a 25% lease royalty. Net mineral acres are 80 × 0.50 = 40. Tract participation is 40 ÷ 640 = 0.0625. Multiplying by 0.25 produces a royalty decimal of 0.01562500, before any additional allocation or participation factor.
The website calculator should show every step: gross acres, mineral fraction, net mineral acres, unit acres, tract participation, royalty rate, optional factor, and final decimal. It should allow fractional inputs and show at least eight decimal places.

Why the formula can change

Unit boundaries, pooled acreage, depth limitations, retained interests, multiple leases, partial assignments, nonparticipating royalties, allocation methods, communitization agreements, and title requirements can change the result. Some regulator production is reported at a lease rather than individual-well level. A calculator cannot determine legal ownership from geometry alone.

How to compare a division-order decimal

Place the payor’s decimal beside your calculated decimal and compute the variance. A difference may come from unit acreage, tract acreage, an ownership fraction, the lease royalty, an allocation factor, or a title requirement. Ask the payor for the ownership deck or calculation basis when the difference is material. Avoid signing a correction you do not understand.
